Losses

Wow, it's been a rough week for the entertainment world
First Ed McMahon, then Farrah Fawcett and now Michael Jackson.

I always wanted Ed McMahon to knock on my door after the superbowl to give me my big check from publishers clearing house......I always knew that would never happen.

I always thought Farrah Fawcett was beautiful. I was a faithful watcher of Charlies Angels, (my favorite was Kate Smith) but I liked all three of them. It was a good show. Miss Fawcett was a very good actress.

What to say about Michael Jackson? I started watching him when he was five and singing with the Jackson Five. He's had a long career. He is an awesome dancer and a great singer. I just love his videos. (And, no, I never believed all the crap about him.....neither apparently, did the courts). He was getting ready to do his final curtain call in England, ironic isn't it?
Awww, the great ones always die young......

Graduation 09

Well, it was the big day! We had an awesome time.
I am so proud of my grandson. And this was the
best picture taken that day.

He is the first in a few generations (on both sides)
to graduate, so it was even more special.

Ah, the stress! The Pride! The sheer joy of it all!

Senior Prom

Wow, we had a fantastic weekend with my grandson Anthony's senior prom on Saturday. His date's name is Tiffany.

The kids had a blast and we had a lot of fun too. We went and took pictures on the bridge over the river and in the square downtown. The excitement at both places with all the people was very infectious. There were so many young people all dressed up and it seemed like all the family members were there with them. I loved it.

I am so proud of Anthony for just making it this far in school.

Games

Remember all the games we used to play as children?

Monopoly-- I always wanted to be the shoe
Risk--- One way to rule the world
Operation-- I always killed him!
Boggle-- A fun way to learn some spelling
Scrabble-- Another way
Checkers-- King me!
Chinese Checkers-- This was different
Chess-- Still don't know how to play
Yahtzee-- I still play this
Zilch-- This too
Twister-- Its hurts just thinking about it
Hide and Seek-- Turn off the lights!

Then there is the outside stuff:

Red Rover-- Send Sally right over
Tag-- Your it!
Hide and Seek-- Fun inside or out!
Hopscotch-- Give me some chalk and a rock!
Tetherball-- One of my favorites

We spent most of our time outside.
We built "forts" out in the desert, of course most of ours were dug, not actually built.
We used to bring home lizards and scorpions and tarantulas and all the icky stuff that was guarnateed to freak mom out. lol
We used to play a game in the yard. I can't remember much about it, just that I think it was a "stick" game.
We also used to play in the desert and surrounding mountains around Henderson all the time.

Wow, there was so much we used to do. We were always able to stay busy with something. If one of us couldn't think of something you can bet one of the others would!

Life was grand as a kid with no responsibilities......

Snow Again

We were under a winter storm watch yesterday.
They were right this time. We got about 3 inches from yesterday afternoon until this morning.
My daughter started her new job today. It is in Franklin, KY, that is 20 to 30 minutes south of us. And yes, it snowed there too. Actually, I believe it snowed as far south of us as Nashville, TN.
It's bad enough just starting a new job, so I decided to do my good deed of the day by helping her out.
She doesn't do well driving in winter conditions, due to a nasty bad accident she had in Michigan 16 years ago. But....the roads weren't icy this morning. That was a big plus.
So, I got up with her and while she was getting ready for work, I went out and scraped the jeep off and got it all warm and toasty for her.
The temperature is supposed to go up to 45 degrees today. So the snow will all be melted by this afternoon. That is definately something to look forward to.
At least its all sunny and bright now. I hate cloudy gray days almost as much as I hate the wind.
Well enough rambling, now to figure out what to do for dinner.......

Blue Diablo

Hoorah! Yippee! and Hot Damn!

My book came today! ---Blue Diablo by Ann Aguirre--- (or should I say the ARC of my book came today?) Either way, YIPPEE!

(Trying to bounce around and jump up and down!)

I have been very patient and trying to not chew off my fingernails since Saturday!

I plan on starting to read this no later than Thursday afternoon. I would have posted a picture of the book, but honestly, I don't know if that would be allowed.

I need to start a list of "being read" books. I am still working on Ann Rices the Witching Hour and I am also reading Jennifer St. Giles--Touch a Dark Wolf....this one I need to get in the mail tomorrow, so I am being greedy and reading it first. Sorry.

Well, I have won two contests in the last month or so. I feel very special. Not for winning, but because I feel like I have pushed my way into an elite society of readers. They have allowed me in with my silly comments and questions and made me feel welcome. Now I just need to figure out how to get my blog out to more people.

Therefore I would like to thank each and everyone of you for putting up with me. Amy C over at Romance Book Wyrm and Barbara at Happily Forever After. The ladies at Desert Island Keepers, Ann Aguirre, azeteclady, Cindy Reads Romance and everyone else that I may have neglected to mention.

Thank you, each and every one of you. ((hugs)) :)

Castles in Germany

Amy, these are the pictures I have that Sally sent me of the castles in Germany. Sorry they aren't close ups or of the inside.

I researched them a little so I will put a bit of information with each picture.

The only date for any of these is the print date on the back. It is Nov. '86.

Castle Ruin in Wilhelmsbad Castle Park, Hanau, Germany

This is just a castle on the Rhine River in Germany.

This is either Godesburg Castle or Schloss Stolzenfels

Heidelberg Castle--Heidelberg, Germany
This castle was built sometime before 1214 AD
It was destroyed in 1622, then rebuilt by Karl Ludwig
It was destroyed for the 2nd and final time in 1693.

Ronneberg Castle--Ronneberg, Germany

Wish I had more to show you.
I hope you remember some of them!

And so ends that little trip down memory lane!! :)

Woooo Hoooo!

Yesterday I entered a contest on Romance Book Wyrm. Amy C was holding a blog tour contest for Ann Aguirre promoting her new book Blue Diablo.

The excerpt from this book is on Ann Aguirre's web page and it interested me enough to go ahead and enter. I have never read one of Ms. Aguirre's books but that will change!

I won! Yippiee, I was one of five chosen to receive an ARC of Blue Diablo! I am so excited I would dance around the room except that action would have me in traction for a month.

So, instead I will wait patiently (if thats possible) to receive my copy, then I can just read it. Just think, I might have a whole new author to start reading.

At the risk of repeating myself.......I am so EXCITED!

Thank you again Amy C and Ann Aguirre for holding this contest.

For What It's Worth..

Well, I sort of figured it out, but I don't like most of the colors blogger gives you to use. At least the things I want in plain sight are in plain site.
So much for being smart.

Bluegrass of all things!

Last night I knew I wasn't cooking dinner.
I had just fixed a big pot of corned beef and cabbage two days before, and Angela had fixed a big pot of spaghetti the day before that and the fridge was already full of left overs.
So, neither of us felt like cooking anything else, and of course, no one felt like having leftovers of any kind again!
We decided to go try a new neighborhood restaurant called The Log Cabin. It's only about 10 minutes from home, and it is a small place that looked like it had a cozy family atmosphere.
Wow, talk about a total surprise....They only have about 20 tables, 25 at the very outside. There is only 6 or 7 items on the dinner menu and between the 4 of us, we tried 3 of them.
Both boys had the hamburger steak and fries, Angela had the chicken livers and I tried the country fried steak.
Every entree was well worth the exorbitantly LOW price they charged. We never thought a new place would open that wasn't trying to get rich off of every individual table. So, that was a nice surprise.
The very best surprise tho, was the free bluegrass band that was playing there. It was a real treat. As soon as I started listening, all thoughts in my head went to mom's house while we were growing up. Most weekends they had live music going. Guitars and banjos and mandolins. I believe they even had a violin or two occasionally. But the biggest image I had......was my mom out there in the middle of it all just dancing away......lol.....
Yeah, I know, ya all are probably thinking, so?
Lol.
My mom was all of 4 feet 11 inches tall and if she weighed a hundred pounds she was doing good.
Ah heck, it was just a nice surprise and it was fun to have those memories jump out at me. I loved the music then and last night. And it was always great to watch my mom "cut a rug".

Writers (and readers alike) Blogs

I have been following a few writers and also readers blogs, I have to tell you, these people are awesome!
I only know one of them personally, but you can't get a better review than theirs. They know how to make you just want to run right out and buy books.
I have come to the conclusion that they are a unique, close knit community, but anyone can read their reviews and enter their contests and just follow along and stay up to date on reading materials. I imagine, (because I haven't done this, I can only imagine) that all you have to do to find out about a book, is post a comment on one of their blogs, ask your questions and you WILL get an answer. Isn't that awesome?
I think so, and I also hope they keep their blogs going and continue to let those of us who don't always know what to say or how to say it, put our two cents in once in a while.
Thank you ladies!

This Holiday

Well, today is Presidents Day!

How many of us remember when we used to celebrate Washingtons Birthday on February 22nd?
Or Lincolns Birthday on February 12th?

(I just thought a little history lesson on this was interesting, most of us don't even think about how the calendar used to read. All of this I found in the Wikipedia encyclopedia.)

Titled Washington's Birthday, the federal holiday was originally implemented by the Congress of the United States of America in 1880 for government offices in the District of Columbia (20 Stat. 277) and expanded in 1885 to include all federal offices (23 Stat. 516). As the first federal holiday to honor an American citizen, the holiday was celebrated on Washington's actual birthday, February 22. On January 1, 1971 the federal holiday was shifted to the third Monday in February by the Uniform Monday Holiday Act. A draft of the Uniform Holidays Bill of 1968 would have renamed the holiday to Presidents' Day to honor both Washington and Lincoln, but this proposal failed in committee and the bill as voted on and signed into law on June 28, 1968 kept the name Washington's Birthday.
By the mid-1980s, with a push from advertisers, the term "Presidents' Day" began its public appearance.[1] The theme has expanded the focus of the holiday to honor another President born in February, Abraham Lincoln, and often other Presidents of the United States. Although Lincoln's birthday, February 12, was never a federal holiday, approximately a dozen state governments have officially renamed their Washington's Birthday observances as "Presidents Day", "Washington and Lincoln Day", or other such designations. However, "Presidents Day" is not always an all-inclusive term. In Massachusetts, while the state officially celebrates "Washington's Birthday," state law also prescribes that the governor issue an annual Presidents Day proclamation honoring the presidents that have come from Massachusetts: John Adams, John Quincy Adams, Calvin Coolidge, and John F. Kennedy.[2] (Coolidge, the only one born outside of Massachusetts, spent his entire political career before the vice presidency there. George H. W. Bush, on the other hand, was born in Massachusetts, but has spent most of his life elsewhere.) Alabama uniquely observes the day as "Washington and Jefferson Day", even though Jefferson's birthday was in April.[3] In New Jersey, Connecticut and Illinois, while Washington's Birthday is a federal holiday, Abraham Lincoln's birthday is still a state holiday, falling on February 12 regardless of the day of the week. In California, Lincoln's Birthday is also a legal state holiday, however, observance is frequently moved to the Monday or Friday occurring closest to February 12. When Lincoln's Birthday is observed on the Friday preceding Washington's Birthday, the resultant four-day weekend is commonly called "Presidents' Day Weekend", particularly by retailers in their sale advertisements.
In Washington's home state of Virginia the holiday is legally known as "George Washington Day."

Tragedy in New York

Wow, I woke up to the news telling about a plane crash in a "suburb" of Buffalo, NY.
Absolutely freaked me out, I have family living in the general area.
So, of course, I made a phone call and when she anwered all I could say was "thank you". Or maybe it was "oh, God". I really don't remember, all I know is the relief was tremendous. And of course, I blubbered a little. :)
I hate to hear about anything like this, it just saddens me that people have to go through this. I am truly impressed that a young girl was able to get herself to safety. A lot of times people just freeze up when something so unexpected and terrifying happens, she just crawled out the hole that opened up for her and found her mom safe too. Thank god for that.
My heart goes out to everyone mourning a lost one, and to all those who lost their lives, I feel sure they weren't done living yet.
God bless them all....

The Sign of Seven Trilogy Book 3

Wow! I loved this one! I guess I am a series reader....lol. This one had some twists in it I didnt expect tho. The only thing I wish, was that the end was just a bit longer maybe? Or just more involved. But I guess if it had been, then Gage wouldn't .........oh heck, can't say what, it'll ruin the end for those of you who haven't read it yet!
So, go buy the trilogy, or do it the cheap way like I did, go to the library! I think these are worth reading. Just give them a chance.....

The Sign of Seven Trilogy Book 2

Here's number 2, and it, for me, was even better than the first one because there were more emotions involved. For me anyway....I'm not good at pimping the book, for that, you need to head over to Romance Book Wyrm....
But I can at least share the ones I read with all of you...and this one was actually read a few days ago, I just figured out one way to get the picture on, so now I'm blogging about it....lmao

The Sign of Seven Trilogy Book 1

I absolutely loved this book. It started out slow for me, then when it grabbed me, it grabbed me completely. So, I guess I'll have to buy the trilogy eventually for my own. I got this copy from the library, then when I ran out of book to read....I ran myself right down for the next two! Loving it!

Me Being Lazy

Well, I wrote about the snow then got lazy.
We actually had some very nice 60 to 70 degree days. At least one with the sunshine I crave so badly.
I have to have sun, cloudy gray days just depress me horribly. At least in the sun, I can feel myself coming back to life right along with the trees and grass and baby animals.
The one day of glorious sunshine will help me get through the next 2 or 3 that will be rain and bad bad weather here.
Altho, that ice storm Kentucky just went through was probably the worst this state has ever seen. We still have entire counties shut down. If anyone cares to look at photos, they are at http://www.wbko.com/ in the weather section.
Horrible mess for a lot of people.
I kind of got hung up reading a lot of books, I am almost finished with the box of books I got in the mail in December....lots of good reading there. As for others, I just go to the library and check them out.
More on that later.

The White Stuff!

Well, we are getting it. I don't know when it started, but it's been snowing now for at least the last 2 hours.

I tried to ignore the fact that it was coming. LOL That didn't work.
It must have warmed up first because all the ice is out of the trees. And that's a good thing. We never had any ice on the road ways, but that doesnt hurt my feelings. Any of you living in cold weather knows what happens when it snows over ice!

Barbara in the City, I bet its beautiful when it snows there. I love the wide open country in Colorado when it snows. There is just something about the crisp clean quiet of snow......

Was I ever wrong!

Well, there I was blathering on about all the rain and cloudy days we were having, moaning and groaning over nothing it seems. It all cleared up, and well, we knew it would right? It always does.

So, I get up this morning and you'll never guess what it did last night!
It Snowed!

Of all the silly things to happen in January! I guess what it all boils down to is, I hate winter.

It's cold and damp and keeps my old bones acting up in ways I never knew bones could act up in. It keeps me in the house, not that I have very many places to go anyway. But still.......

Ah, for the good old days of living in the desert. Hot days, cool nights. Put a sweater on at night and walk down the street to the bus stop or the next casino, whichever comes first.

Yeah, I think that will be my next goal. Just to get back home alive. I would like to enjoy a few of the pleasures that the Vegas valley have to offer before my time here is up.

And besides, I have a brother there I haven't seen in years that I miss terribly.........

Rainy Cloudy Days

I hate them.

I used to like the rain, but it's different here in Kentucky.
I guess it's alot like it was in Ohio.
You can bet if it's going to be a rainy day, you also will have at least a week of overcast, gray, dreary days to go along with the one rainy day you get.

Then the wind decides to show up.
OMG.....I hate the wind.
It goes right through you, straight to the bone.
No holds barred, your gonna freeze.

I see no reason we have to have a week or two in a row with these cloudy, dreary rainy days.
If we just had one or two in a row, I think it would be easier to deal with them.

Don't you?
